Lamu county has got a major boost towards enhancing medical services following the unveiling of an endoscopy unit at King Fahd Hospital in Lamu.

The new sub-unit was launched by Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Tuesday and will be under the minimally-invasive surgery theatre, a transformative addition to the King Fahd medical capabilities.

The equipment has a small camera passed through the mouth to the throat and to the stomach to accurately diagnose gastrointestinal problems such as hyperacidity, gaseous problems, stomach ulcers, internal hernias, esophageal and stomach ulcers.

Governor Timamy also noted that the facility will be a sigh of relief to patients who had been forced to travel to mombasa for the service. He further thanked visiting Consultant Dr Lee Jingsup, resident Surgeons Dr. Abdulkadir and Dr. Fawaz for having successfully conducted 30 endoscopic surgeries for free at the facility.

Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj said endescopy unit is a significant milestone towards King Fahd mission of enhancing the health and well-being of Kenyans and global citizens through providing patient-centered and evidence-based healthcare.

At least 30 beneficiaries including 10 youths from Mkomani and Shella ward, Lamu County have benefited from various tools of trade from the county government.

The items which included rotary sander, jigsaw, circular saw, router among others were handed over by Governor Issa Timamy on Tuesday as part of empowering the youth to start and run a business to generate an income.

The Governor further noted his administration remained committed towards ensuring a good working environment for youth, women and PWD to thrive in business.

Trade and Investment CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj said that the Department will monitor the beneficiaries progress in all businesses to ensure they have a positive impact on the youth and the society. She also noted that the department was encouraging the use of online to market their products.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy EGH,OGW on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction of King Fahd oxygen plant housing saying it supports his election promise to Lamu residents of delivering quality healthcare services.

Speaking after the inspection, the Governor said the plant which is due to arrive in Lamu next month and will serve the ICU and crucial departments.

“This plant which will save the county over Sh. 10 million shillings annually in purchasing oxygen, and will help cut on travels costs for patients who go to other counties to seek for these services” said the Governor.

Health CECM thanked Governor Timamy for his commitment towards strengthening the health sector by hiring more health workers, building dispensaries and more so equipping them to a state that can serve the community.

Also in attendance was CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officer Dr. Victor Tole, Hospital board members led by Chairlady Hon. Amina Kale, MCAs Hon. Shekhuna, Hon. Medo among others.

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has reaffirmed his commitment to education accessibility by awarding scholarships to 120 secondary and tertiary students from underprivileged backgrounds, under the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-economic Development (KEMFSED) program.

The students received Ksh. 9.1million out of Ksh. 20million that will be disbursed.

The scholarships were awarded to recipients who were carefully selected based on their financial need and academic merit and will benefit 30 secondary school students and 90 college students.

Speaking while awarding the scholarships at Mokowe headquarters on Friday, Governor Timamy lauded the KEMFSED project for their invaluable contribution to education and the community, acknowledging their commitment to supporting deserving students in pursuing their academic dreams.

The Governor reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to education, highlighting it as a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda.

“My administration aims to remove financial barriers that often hinder students’ access to quality education. I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that every child in Lamu County has the opportunity to receive high-quality education and reach their full potential,” stated Governor Timamy.

The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy Raphael Munyua, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, CECMs, KEMFSED County Project Coordinator Mr. Kamalu Shariff, Chief Officers, among other county officials.

French Ambassador to Kenya H.E Arnaud Suquet has said Lamu County Geographic Information System Laboratory project remains to be a key pillar towards enabling the county to collect, process and analyze data in digital form.

The Ambassador was speaking on Thursday when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW at Mokowe County Headquarters.

The Ambassador who is Lamu for an official visit also toured the LAPSSET project.

In attendance was Lamu Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas and Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa and County Executive Committee Members.

West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komolle together with members of the West Pokot Executive on Tuesday morning paid a courtesy call on County Government of Lamu Governor’s Office at the County Headquarters in Mokowe.

The West Pokot delegation which is in Lamu for a 4 days benchmarking exercise on governance was received by Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga and Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa.

Among the key areas that the County Officials are interested to learn from Lamu include; Disaster Response Management (DRM), Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and Geographic Information System (GIS).

During their working tour, the team will visit the County Assembly and the Lamu Port.

In attendance was Disaster Response Management Chief Officer Mr. Kassim Mohamed and DRM Director Mr. Mbarak.

In a collaboration aimed at developing Disaster Response Bill, West Pokot County Government has embarked on a benchmarking mission to the County Government of Lamu. Led by the West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komolle and County Executive Committee Members, the delegation sought to gain valuable insights from the Department of Disaster Response Management on how they developed their DRM Act as well as the disaster coordination at the Emergency Operation Center.

Speaking at Mokowe Emergency Operation Center on Tuesday afternoon, West Pokot Deputy Governor commended County Government of Lamu for it’s prudent management of resources, especially the setting up of Emergency Command Center which acts as a dispatch centre for the county’s multi agency Disaster Response Team.

“We came to Lamu after it was honored for it’s outstanding disaster response team. We have noted the remarkable achievements the county has made after developing their DRM Act and we are here to learn so that when we go back home to develop a West Pokot DRM bill” he said.

Speaking while representing Governor Issa Timamy, Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga expressed the delegation and emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing and collaboration between the two counties.

The delegation that will be in Lamu for four days, will also tour Lamu’s Geographic Information System (GIS), County Assembly and the Lamu Port.

The team was hosted by the Office of the Governor led by Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Disaster Management Chief Officer Mr. Kassim Mohamed and Disaster Director Mr. Mbarak. Also in attendance was USAID-KUZA representative.

Takriban marefarii 30 waliochini ya umri wa miaka 35 Kutoka Kaunti ya Lamu, wanapokea mafunzo ya class 3 ya kuchezesha mpira wa miguu ili waweze kujiunga na wenzao waliohitimu kuchezesha ligi za majuu.

Mafunzo hayo ya wiki moja, yamedhaminiwa na serekali ya Kaunti ya Lamu, ambapo imeleta Refarii mkufunzi aliyehitimu na kuidhinishwa na Shirikisho la Soka duniani.

Akifungua Rasmi warsha hiyo, Waziri wa Michezo Sebastian Owanga, amesema wamefikia hatua hiyo, kufuatia ripoti ya diba lililochezwa la Talanta Hela, ambapo iliyoonyesha kwamba kuna dosari katika marefarii na wakufunzi wasoka Lamu.

Aidha Owanga, amesema mafunzo hayo yatasaidia kuenua kiwango cha mpira wa kabumbu Kaunti ya Lamu na hata kupunguza utumizi wa dawa za kulevya kwa vijana.

Waliokuwepo ni pamoja na Afisa mkuu wa Michezo Hafswa Difini, Mkurugenzi wa Michezo Peter Ndichu pamoja na Afisa wake Abubakar Basalama.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and other Jumuiya Ya Kaunti Za Pwani – JKP Governors have unanimously agreed to have a unified position on CRAs 4th edition revenue sharing formula. This was agreed during Jumuiya ya County Za Pwani (JKP) Governor’s Summit and the 4th edition of the county revenue sharing formula held at Mombasa.

The summit was part of a progressive approach towards consolidating and charting a clear future for the coastal people with a shared prosperity agenda.

The Governor’s committed to remain steadfast in advocating for the interests of the region and have an equal share of resources to drive our counties’ development agenda forward.

Present were, H.E. Gideon Maitha Mung’aro, the JKP Chairman and Governor Kilifi County; H.E. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Governor Mombasa County; H.E Dr Dhadho Godhana, Governor Tana River; H.E Governor Andrew Mwadime, Governor Taita Taveta, and H.E. Fatuma Achani- Governor Kwale County, represented by Hon. Bakari Sebe, CECM Finance and Economic Planning. Others present were County Secretaries led by Lamu CECM Amb. Ali Abbas, CECMs, CO’s among others.

The Summit was organised by the Jumuiya Economic Development Secretariat led by the CEO, Emmanuel Nzai.

Lamu County Government through the Department of Environment & Climate Change commemorated International Day of Forest 2024, in partnership with Kenya Forest Service at Hindi Prison.

The theme for this year’s event was “Forests and Innovation, New Solutions for a better world “

The event which graced Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua urged locals to conserve the forests and wetlands in order to sustain the livelihoods of the local communities and stabilise the environment whose deterioration he noted will be devastating to the country.

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012, a day to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests.

The event was supported by different stakeholders, Nature Kenya & The Nature Conservancy.

In attendance were Agriculture CECM Hon. Jimmy Gichuu, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Provincial Administration led by Lamu Central DCC Mr . Charles Kitheka, Environment Chief Officer Mr. Rashid Dirie, Representatives from Nature Kenya, Wetlands International, KEFRI, NEMA, NYS, Hindi Prison, local CBOs and the general public.
