1,812 households from Kiunga, Kizigitini and Poromoko-Widho are set to benefit from water projects that will be implemented through the County Government and the Royal Danish Embassy.

The assurance came after representatives from the Royal Danish Embassy visited LAWASCO offices for financial monitoring of projects that are financed by Water Sector Trust Fund and Northern Rangeland Trust within the County.

The delegation, received by the County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas on behalf of the governor.

They commended Lamu County’s plan on implementation of water projects and committed to continue supporting the County on improving water challenges within the County.

In attendance was CECM Water Hon. Tashrifa Mohamed, Managing Director, Lawasco Mr. Salim Issa, Director Engineer Najash, Representatives from Water Trust Funds, and NRT among others.

DROUGHT STRIKEN HOUSEHOLDS FROM LAMU TO RECIEVE RELIEF FOOD

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has pledged for humanitarian and development response to the most vulnerable drought striken families in Lamu County that has left many households severely food insecure across Lamu East and West Sub-Counties.

The pledge was made this morning by N.D.M.A C.E.O Hared Hassan Adan Lt Col (Rtd), when he paid a courtesy call on H.E Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H in his office at the County Headquarters in Mokowe.

The drought situation is particularly stark across the county where famine is likely to ravage more vulnerable families if rains fail this season and if humanitarian assistance is not scaled up to reach the most vulnerable populations at the right time.

The food relief exercise which will be undertaken by N.D.M.A in partnership with County Government of Lamu will be flagged off tomorrow (Tuesday). To further mitigate on the drought being experienced, N.D.M.A also committed to donate one desalination plant and will in future partner with County Government of Lamu to set up dams that will provide water for domestic, livestock and irrigation purposes.

A delegation from International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) has this afternoon paid a courtesy call on Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W to brief him on a raft of community based research that they have been undertaking in Lamu.

The IPSTC is managed by Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and conducts training, education and research, informing military, police and civilian personnel in all aspects of peace support operations.

The IPSTC team led by Head of Research Lt.Colonel Mwasaru, took the Governor through their research programs in Maritime Disaster 2020, Food Security 2021 and their upcoming research on Land Mines and Improvised Explosive Devices. The IED research will be undertaken in villages that touch on Boni forest areas across the county.

Governor Timamy appreciated the team for their enormous contribution towards creating a society that is continuously adaptive to the ever-changing security realities and committed to support them towards this noble course.

In attendance was County Government of Lamu Chief of Staff, Mr. Abdulnasir M. Issa, Director Human Resource, Mr. Paul Waluba, Deputy Director Disaster Management Mr. Shee Kupi, IPST officials among others.

UNDP AND CAF LAUD LAMU COUNTY FOR CONDUCTING A SUCCESSFUL CIVIC PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN LAMU EAST

The County Assembly Forum(CAF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Friday paid a courtesy call to the office of Lamu County Secretary to present the progress reports of the ongoing Civic Education Public Participation 2023 Draft Bill which was successfully finalized in lamu East (Kiunga, Kizingitini)

The C.S received the progress reports from the teams and appreciated everyone’s effort in making the program successful. He further lauded the ongoing KDF-Community engagement in Lamu stating that the bill will capture a section on how the County and KDF can partner towards promoting Civic Education in enhancing security and safety in Lamu County.

He further committed the development partners and the great people of Lamu that the bill will be passed at the cabinet once it’s tabled.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy, EGH and his entourage from the County Government of Lamu have successfully completed a benchmarking exercise in Vihiga County on the Geospatial Technology Systems (GTS).

The Governor was received by his counterpart H.E. Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo.

Lamu now becomes the 26th county to benchmark in Vihiga on how to incorporate Geospatial Technology in governance and resources allocation.

County Government of Lamu Embarks On Roads Rehabilitation

County Government of Lamu program for opening up and rehabilitation of rural access roads through the Department of Roads is still ongoing with the rehabilitation of Jua Kali- Mkopwani Road routine maintenance almost complete.

The 5Km road now shortens the distance for road users from Juakali area to Uziwa Mikoko and will pass through Jua Kali area, Sikomani, Miembe Mbili, Uziwa primary school and Uziwa Makanisani.

The County Government of Lamu under the stewardship of H.E Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H remains committed to open up roads that will anable and ease transportation, improve on security and create an overall economic growth of the county.

LAMU COUNTY CONDUCTS THE FIRST EVER CEASERIAN SECTION IN A DONKEY

The Department of Veterinary Services has today conducted the first ever donkey ceaserian in Lamu County.

Speaking after conducting the rare procedure Dr. Felix Rachuonyo said they conducted the procedure after the donkey started experiencing labour pain in the wee hours of the morning.

The donkey owner tried to assist the donkey with little success after which they decided to report the issue to the veterinary office.

The sub-county Veterinary officer tried the normal delivery to relieve the donkey with little success before the Veterinarian opted to conduct the rare procedure.

The donkey owner, Awadh Abubakar alias Janu, who had lost hope of ever seeing his donkey alive again was in all smiles after the successful procedure.

He thanked the Veterinary department for according his donkey a new lease of life.

Dr. Rachuonyo observed that the procedure was successful due to unwavering support that has been received from the Governor H.E Issa Timamy.

Governor Timamy Conducts Impromptu Visit at Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has made an impromptu visit at the Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital with an aim of checking the functionality of the facility structuress, availability of drugs and supplies towards ensuring the facility offers quality services to residents.

The Governor who made a similar impromptu visit at Faza Hospital last week says the aim of these visits is to ensure residents are getting the best services from public hospitals.

MPEKETONI RELIGIOUS LEADERS PLEDGE TO SUPPORT LAMU COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has met and held discussions with Pastors from Mpeketoni this afternoon to discuss on how the church plays it’s critical role in socio-economic transformation of Lamu County.

Their talks delved on how the church and the County Government of Lamu can work in synergy towards cultivating cohesion between all communities living in Lamu.

The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy H.E. Raphael Munyua also adressed the issue of land noting that his administration remains commited to solve the land issue by ensuring all squatter land is surveyed and title deeds issued in earnest.

Lamu Deputy Governor H.E Rafael Munyua called upon Lamu residents to get along and live together as a family that is built on the foundation of faith, unity, peace and fraternity. The D.G further echoed Governor Timamy’s sentiments in inclusivity stating that he will support the Governor in delivering his development agenda as well as ensuring they run a government that is all inclusive and reflects the face of Lamu.

The religious leaders thanked the Governor for recognizing them and further promised to support the county government in ensuring smooth service delivery to the residents and by extension, the realization of his manifesto to the great people of Lamu.
