County Government of Lamu Embarks On Roads Rehabilitation

County Government of Lamu program for opening up and rehabilitation of rural access roads through the Department of Roads is still ongoing with the rehabilitation of Jua Kali- Mkopwani Road routine maintenance almost complete.

The 5Km road now shortens the distance for road users from Juakali area to Uziwa Mikoko and will pass through Jua Kali area, Sikomani, Miembe Mbili, Uziwa primary school and Uziwa Makanisani.

The County Government of Lamu under the stewardship of H.E Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H remains committed to open up roads that will anable and ease transportation, improve on security and create an overall economic growth of the county.

LAMU COUNTY CONDUCTS THE FIRST EVER CEASERIAN SECTION IN A DONKEY

The Department of Veterinary Services has today conducted the first ever donkey ceaserian in Lamu County.

Speaking after conducting the rare procedure Dr. Felix Rachuonyo said they conducted the procedure after the donkey started experiencing labour pain in the wee hours of the morning.

The donkey owner tried to assist the donkey with little success after which they decided to report the issue to the veterinary office.

The sub-county Veterinary officer tried the normal delivery to relieve the donkey with little success before the Veterinarian opted to conduct the rare procedure.

The donkey owner, Awadh Abubakar alias Janu, who had lost hope of ever seeing his donkey alive again was in all smiles after the successful procedure.

He thanked the Veterinary department for according his donkey a new lease of life.

Dr. Rachuonyo observed that the procedure was successful due to unwavering support that has been received from the Governor H.E Issa Timamy.

Governor Timamy Conducts Impromptu Visit at Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has made an impromptu visit at the Mpeketoni Sub County Hospital with an aim of checking the functionality of the facility structuress, availability of drugs and supplies towards ensuring the facility offers quality services to residents.

The Governor who made a similar impromptu visit at Faza Hospital last week says the aim of these visits is to ensure residents are getting the best services from public hospitals.

The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy H.E. Raphael Munyua, Education C.E.C.M Hon. Sebastian Owanga, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir M. Issa among others.

MPEKETONI RELIGIOUS LEADERS PLEDGE TO SUPPORT LAMU COUNTY GOVERNMENT

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has met and held discussions with Pastors from Mpeketoni this afternoon to discuss on how the church plays it’s critical role in socio-economic transformation of Lamu County.

Their talks delved on how the church and the County Government of Lamu can work in synergy towards cultivating cohesion between all communities living in Lamu.

The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy H.E. Raphael Munyua also adressed the issue of land noting that his administration remains commited to solve the land issue by ensuring all squatter land is surveyed and title deeds issued in earnest.

Lamu Deputy Governor H.E Rafael Munyua called upon Lamu residents to get along and live together as a family that is built on the foundation of faith, unity, peace and fraternity. The D.G further echoed Governor Timamy’s sentiments in inclusivity stating that he will support the Governor in delivering his development agenda as well as ensuring they run a government that is all inclusive and reflects the face of Lamu.

The religious leaders thanked the Governor for recognizing them and further promised to support the county government in ensuring smooth service delivery to the residents and by extension, the realization of his manifesto to the great people of Lamu.

LAMU EAST FARMERS RECEIVE OVER 120 HEIFERS IN A BID TO BOOST DAIRY IN THE COUNTY

Over 200 smallholder farmers in Lamu East Sub-County are a happy lot after having received

123 heifers, 6 bulls and two fiber boats from the County Government of Lamu in partnership with the World Bank-funded Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Program.

Speaking at Mtangawanda while handing over the grants to farmers, Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W, said the fiber boats will turn around the fortunes of traditional fishing folks, increase their fishing capacity and improve food security as well as generating household income.

The Council of Governors’ Blue Economy Committee Chair assured the fisher groups that his Administration will help them to exploit the vast marine resources in the expansive coastline and to reach deeper where bigger catches are available.

The small-holder beneficiary groups that received heifers and bulls were encouraged to take good care of the livestock for posterity, assuring them of veterinary extension services support from the County Government.

“All livestock being given to beneficiary groups have been tagged and this will help our officers to identify them whenever they come to inspect their progress” Stated Governor Timamy. He further said the county will be providing animal feeds to farmers.

Agriculture C.E.C.M Hon. James Gichu put on notice farmers who might decide to sell or feed on the animals adding that they are meant to boost dairy farming in the county.

Agribusiness being key in Governor Timamy’s manifesto, he has endeavored to empower the farmers to upgrade from cattle herders to dairy farmers where there are high returns depending on the effort put in production.

The beneficiary groups include; Al-Qamar Disabled Self Help Group, Jioe Moyo Disabled Self Help Group, Maendeleo Orphans Self Help Group, Tupe Sitara Women Group, Kilimani Development Self Help Group, Faza Maqbool Youth Group, Siyu Community Health Workers, Salama Self Help Group.

In attendance was Education C.E.C.M Hon. Sebastian Owanga, K.C.S.A.P Coordinator Mr. Stephen Mbuvi, Fisheries Chief Officer Mr. Kamalu Shariff, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir M. Issa among others.

Governor Timamy assures Mkunumbi inferno victims that his administration will help them rebuild

The County Government of Lamu has this afternoon extended support to victims of the fire tragedy that ravaged victims in Mkunumbi on Saturday where homes and properties of unknown value were destroyed.

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W said his administration would assist the affected families towards rebuilding their lives.

The victims of the fire thanked His Excellency Governor Timamy for his support during this difficult period.

SIX SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN LAMU EAST CONSTITUENCY RECEIVE BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP CHEQUES WORTH OVER 3 MILLION.

H.E. The Governor Issa Timamy E.GH, O.G.W has today issued busuary and scholarship cheques worth Ksh. 3 million to six secondary schools in Lamu East Constituency.

The six schools are:-

Kiunga Secondary school.

– Faza secondary school

– Kizigitini secondary school

– Patte Girls secondary school

– Siyu Secondary school

– Sheikh Msellem Secondary school Mbwajumwali.

The scholarship will benefit continuing students who are currently enrolled under the County bursary and scholarship program.

The Governor also congratulated students who received their scholarships and encouraged them to work hard in their studies since it’s only through hard work that they can achieve their goals.

“In order to cultivate a reading culture in Lamu East, I will personally buy story books since they are critical towards improving reading and speaking skills.” Said Governor Timamy at Patte Girls secondary.

The Governor further stated that his administration will not hesitate to recall scholarships to all those will not perform in their studies.

LANDS C.S MEETS LAMU COUNTY POLITICAL LEADERS LED BY GOVERNOR TIMAMY TO ADRESS LAND ISSUES IN LAMU

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has attended a consultative meeting of Lamu County elected leaders to address land issues in Lamu.

The meeting that was chaired by the Cabinet Secretary from the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Zacharia Mwangi Njeru gave an opportunity to all elected leaders to address the issues of squatters and injustices in land distribution that has affected Lamu County for decades.

The C.S assured leaders and the residents of Lamu that his Ministry was committed to getting to the root cause of the longstanding land issues and offering amicable solutions.

Lamu Governor thanked leaders for attending the meeting noting that it was a good head start towards solving land issues in Lamu. He further noted that among key challenges that affect the Lamu people are inequalities in land distribution and further urged the C.S to deter the issuance of title deeds to cartels who acquire title deeds from Nairobi without the knowledge of the County Government yet land is a devolved function.

The governor further urged political leaders not to publicize the emotive land adding that it’s a sensitive matter that requires a concerted effort of all stakeholders to find a solution.

The meeting comes as a follow-up to President William Ruto’s tour of the County last weekend where he committed to address the arising land issues in the area.

HINDI: LAMU GOVERNOR LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR A 52 BED CAPACITY

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has this afternoon laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new hospital in Hindi ward, with a capacity for 52 beds.

The facility which is being constructed by BOMU Hospital will be completed before end of this year and will host an emergency wing, ICU, out/in patient and specialists.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Timamy lauded the move by BOMU to set up an ultra modern hospital in Lamu and further expressed the commitment of his administration to equip all public hospitals to ensure the great people of Lamu get quality health care services.

The governor called upon investors to pool-in broadly into Lamu stating that his administration had re-engineered a rebirth of making Lamu an economic thrift through devolution as envisioned by the proponents of the Constitution.
