TAPPING BLUE ECONOMY- Lamu Re-Opens Kizingitini ice plant

As part of County Government of Lamu plans towards boosting the Blue Economy sector, the County government has today re-opened the Kizingitini ice plant in a bid to spur the fisheries sector and optimize efficiency on flake ice production.

Speaking while re-opening the ice plant, Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW said the plant which is conveniently located in Lamu East has section for storage of fish and other sea catch, will greatly assist to reduce post-harvest losses and empower fishermen to determine pricing by allowing them to keep their catch fresh for longer.

The plant will also enable fisher groups from nearby villages to obtain ice from the facility with ease and eliminate the long trips made to Lamu Island and beyond to obtain ice which has a lower shelf life.

Governor Timamy who is at Kizingitini to inspect Government projects is accompanied by CECMs, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officers among other government officials.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY ATTENDS PUBLIC BARAZA AT KIZINGITINI TO SHARE HIS DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Lamu County Governor accompanied by his top government officials from the executive attended a public baraza at Kizingitini on Thursday afternoon where he took through the members of the public on his Administration development agenda for Kizingitini and Lamu County at large.

During the baraza, members of the public had an opportunity to engage with the governor on his plan towards ensuring Blue Economy, Education, Trade, Water, Tourism, Health and Agriculture will contribute towards an economic revolution in the County.

The governor assured Kizingitini residents that his government is working hard to ensure there’s provision of efficient and effective services to avert problems that had clouded Lamu County before. The residents thanked the Governor for the opportunity to engage at the grassroot level and committed to support his administration towards the realization of his flagship projects.

KIZINGITINI RESIDENTS ELATED AFTER GOVERNOR TIMAMY REPAIRS THEIR DESALINATION PLANT

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy EGH, OGW on Thursday inspected the Kizingitini desalination plant that is now offering water to over 500 households from Kizingitini and neighboring villages of Mbwajumwali and Myabogi.

The Governor who is inspecting government projects in Kizingitini, was impressed to see the 21km pipeline project operating at it’s optimum and noted that his quest remains to ensure provision of centralized drinking water supply to Lamu County population.

Kizingitini residents thanked Governor Timamy for reviving the desalation plant saying they can now access clean water for domestic and livestock use. The plant had broken down early last year and the residents had to walk for long distances to find clean water.

County Government of Lamu To Construct A Modern Market In Kizingitini

County Government of Lamu is set to commence the construction of a modern market in Kizingitini that will spur economic growth in the region.

Speaking while inspecting the proposed site on Thursday, Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW announced that the market will host over 80 traders and will be used by fresh produce, cereals and fish traders.

“We are going to fast track the exercise and I urge those responsible for this project to move with speed so that we complete it as soon as possible and unlock the potential for this region” said the Governor.

The Governor who is in Kizingitini to inspect government projects, expressed optimism that the establishment of the market will provide a long lasting solution to the traders who have been operating under difficult conditions.

“This initiative will be advantageous to our people; my Administration remains committed to construct more markets and also fully operationalize and utilize the existing ones, so as to link our traders to market opportunities” he added.

The components of the market include;

  1. Work tops for traders
    2.Ablution block
  2. Office Block Market office, Revenue Office
  3. ICT Hub room
  4. Waste Disposal area
  5. Borehole
    7.Perimeter fence and gates
  6. Road access paving- approximately 100M

During the site visit, the Governor was accompanied by Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officer Md. Joyce Murimi among others.

RENOVATION OF KIZINGITINI ECDE COMMENCES AS PUPILS’ RECEIVE FREE LEARNING MATERIALS FROM LAMU COUNTY

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timmay has this morning commissioned the renovation of Kizingitini ECDE center and also spearheaded the distribution of free learning materials to the ECDE center.

The materials will go a long way towards entrenching a holistic development approach in our learning institutions.

Speaking during the event Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy underscored the importance of early childhood education adding that they are the base to nurture a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

“My administration will remain committed to support and equip our ECDE centers that will enable our beloved children to acquire learning abilities and the required social development” said Governor Timamy.

CECM Education Hon. Sebastian Owanga thanked H.E Governor Timamy for demonstrating his goodwill towards investing in ECDE noting that they have strong dividends to individuals, communities, and national economies through improved livelihoods.

KIZINGITINI GETS A BOAT CONSTRUCTION YARD FROM THE COUNTY.

County Government of Lamu has officially handed over Kizingitini boat construction yard to locals, a move that will enable them manage the yard and use it for boat construction and repairs.

The handing over ceremony was graced by H.E Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW who was accompanied by Fisheries CECM Hon. Faiz Fankupi, Trade CECM Hon. Aisha Miraj and Education CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga.This is a relief to the boat operators since they will have a formal centralised place for their day to day operations.
