GOVERNOR TIMAMY CONSOLES MBWANJUMWALI FIRE VICTIMS

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy accompanied by his Deputy H.E. Raphael Munyua is currently at Mbwajumwali village in Lamu East to assess the damage caused by an inferno that razed 8 houses on Saturday 29/10/2022.

The Governor has assured victims that his administration will support them towards rebuilding their lives following last Saturday fire incident that left over 15 families homeless and properties destroyed.

Towards supporting the families the governor gave food supplies and monetary support as part of the support to help the affected families.
“Each of the affected family will receive food supply and Ksh. 50,000, as part of my Governments support towards rebuilding your lives. My administration will enhance the emergency response team as part of the mitigation processes towards such incidents” Governor Timamy said.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a mentally ill man who threw a burning piece of wood on the roof of one of the houses, resulting to over 8 other houses being gutted down.

COG Blue economy committee held its inaugural consultative meeting to deliberate on critical issues affecting the blue economy sector with a view to explore challenges and opportunities in the Sector for County Governments.

The committee, Chaired by Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy has also elected H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma as its Vice Chair.

Netherlands Ambassador to Kenya Maarten Brouwer has committed to work with Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy on areas of mutual interest between Lamu and Netherlands.

The Ambassador was speaking when Lamu Governor paid him a courtesy call at the Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi.

Lamu Governor lauded the partnerships they have had with Netherlands and further committed to ensure his administration is keen on establishing a strong base with strategic partners to invest in Lamu County.

The Governor who is in Nairobi for official visit is expected to chair the Council of Governors Blue Economy Committee later in the day.

DANISH GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO SUPPORT LAMU IN IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER AND SANITATION PROJECTS

The Ambassador of Denmark to Kenya H.E. Ole Thonke has given his assurance that the Danish government will continue supporting water and sanitation projects in Lamu county.

Speaking during a courtesy call meeting that was paid on the Ambassador by Lamu Governor H.E Timamy, Ole Thonke emphasized that Lamu has been a strategic partner to Denmark and towards entrenching their partnership the Danish government will continue working with Lamu for the benefit of the people.

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy lauded the water projects undertaken by the Danish government in Lamu and further noted that their commitment towards supporting Lamu in water and sanitation will help towards mitigation of the impending drought.

The Governor who was accompanied by the County Secretary nominee Amb. Ali Abbas has been meeting key strategic partners in Nairobi to explore possible areas of collaboration in investments and partnerships.

At the invite of the Turkish Ambassador to Kenya H.E Subutay Yüksel, Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy has visited the Turkish Embassy and had a fruitful discussion with the Ambassador on possible areas of partnership between the Embassy and Turkish organizations on areas of possible investments in Lamu County.

WE WILL CUT OUR NICHE IN THE LAMU PORT; GOVERNOR TIMAMY

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy has paid a courtesy call on LAPSSET C.E.O Stephen Ikua in his Nairobi office to discuss on how they can cooperate to fast track LAPSSET projects that will in turn create direct employment for the local communities and support indirect jobs in fishery, manufacturing, logistics, transport, trade, and commerce sectors.

The meeting came a fortnight after the inaugural shipment 15,600 herds of livestock from from the Lamu Port to Port of Salalah in Oman that was witnessed by H.E Governor Timamy.

Speaking during the meeting LAPSSET C.E.O lauded the Governors commitment towards ensuring his administration works closely with the National Government towards ensuring Lamu Port achieves its potential in connecting the landlocked East African economies to global trade routes. Mr. Ikua also gave Governor Timamy their (LAPSSET) contribution towards the upcoming Lamu County Cultural Festivals that are slated in November this year.

On his side Governor Timamy said his administration will remain upbeat in ensuring locals from Lamu are able to compete and tap into the vast opportunities being created by the Lamu Port of Lamu which will soon position Kenya’s economy on the continent and globally.

The LAPSSET Corridor Program is Eastern Africa’s largest and most ambitious infrastructure project bringing together Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan. It consists of 7 mega projects that includes Lamu Port, Inter regional highways, Crude oil pipeline, Product oil pipeline, SGR, Airport and Resort cities.

GOVERNOR OF LAMU COUNTY PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON SOUTH SUDAN AMBASSADOR TO KENYA

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy has today paid a courtesy call on the Republic of South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Chol M. U. Ajongo, to discuss areas of mutual interest between Lamu and the Republic of South Sudan.

During the discussions that were aimed at continuing to strengthen cooperation between Lamu and the Republic of South Sudan the two engaged on discussions covering various areas of mutual interest like education where most of the students travel to South Sudan for further studies.

Governor Timamy further noted that his administration was keen to establish relations that will be beneficial to the people of Lamu

LAMU GOVERNOR PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON SAUDI AMBASSADOR TO KENYA

Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Kenya, H.E, Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Salman has today held talks with Lamu Governor H.E, Issa Timamy who paid him courtesy call at the Saudi Arabia embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

They two discussed on areas of possible collaboration and cooperation between Lamu County and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Governor Timamy said Lamu was ready work with Saudi Arabia to strengthen beneficial cooperation that would open for trade and economic cooperation to the great people of Lamu.

GOVERNOR ISSA TIMMAY ADDRESSES INAUGURAL SITTING OF THE 3RD LAMU COUNTY ASSEMBLY

Lamu Governor H.E Timamy has this morning officially opened the Third Lamu County Assembly and addressed the house on his Administration key areas of focus and engagement for the next five years.
This is in accordance with standing Order No 17(1) provides that; The governor shall address the opening of each newly elected county assembly.

The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy Hon. Raphael Munyua was received by the County Assembly leadership led by the Speaker Hon. Azhar Ali Mbarak , Deputy Speaker Hon. Paul Kimani and the Clerk Hon. Omar Ahmed Ali.

In his address, the Governor outlined his 9-point agenda that will enable his government achieve the strategy to realize aspirations of the Lamu people. They include;

  1. Digitization of local revenue to seal leakages and enhancement of revenue collection.
  2. Affordable and accessible health services across the county. This will include equipping of hospitals, recruitment of health practitioners, universal health care programme and infrastructure development.
  3. Improved water services and connections across the county. The government will procure water boozers for water supply in areas that have no water, service all existing desalination plants, sinking more boreholes.
  4. Education. Ensure we have quality grades and favorable learning conditions in the county. The county will invest in Infrastructure development, recruitment of teachers and provision of learning materials. The county will also introduce common county wide exams and continue awarding scholarships and bursaries to qualified and needy students on merit.
  5. Agriculture.
    As the key driver of our economy, the county government of Lamu will rehabilitate and roll out the tractor services to enhance farm mechanization. This year the county will give farmers free planting seeds, ensure availability of fertilizer and recruit agricultural extension officers. More so the county will support nuts farmers, introduce irrigation projects in all wards and initiate farmers training programmes.
  6. Tourism
    Lamu is a world heritage site and the county government will support the sector to become a solid economic earner. Towards achieving this; the county shall embark on training guide operators, promoting Lamu as an island of festivals.
  7. Livestock and Fisheries
    The county will revamp the sector by allocating adequate resources towards this sector. The county shall rely on the fisheries act that was passed by the first assembly to support the fishing industry. In livestock, the county will rehabilitate and operationalize all cattle dips, acquire veterinary drugs and vaccines to support livestock farmers. Support Cooperatives to assist farmers in marketing their produce and promoting Nagele livestock market to tap into the recent Oman livestock export opportunity.
  8. Information Communications and Technology (ICT)
    The county shall accelerate ICT infrastructure and capacities. Already Lamu island and Mpeketoni are connected with internet and this will be replicated in Faza, Kiunga, Shella, Mokowe, Hindi, Hongwe and Witu. The county will also renovate and reintroduce ICT centers that will give people access to information and research.
  9. Social Welfare and Sports
    County Government will increase women, youth and PWD fund. The county will further propose to amend the fund policy to allow the county to give interest free loans. Fighting drug abuse will remain a priory to the county. In sports the county shall invest in infrastructure and reintroduce the Governors cup competition.

The Governor further expressed his desire in fostering an accountable and transparent administration that will always consider input from the people of Lamu. “I want to assure you of my continued commitment towards a securing better future for Lamu County. Even when we are facing drought and many other challenges, my goal is to see a prosperous Lamu at peace with itself with a good quality of life” Governor Timamy said.

While addressing the House the Governor underscored the need for the Assembly and the Executive to embrace unity of purpose so that they can develop Lamu county. He pointed out that his Government will create an enabling environment that will facilitate the people to become the engine and centre of development.

“As elected leaders our singular objective should be to improve the lives of the Lamu residents. If we unite towards this singular call, then we can serve our people with equity, social justice and always remain to be responsive to their needs”

The Governor also called on Lamu County Assembly Hon. Members to hasten the process of approving the Supplementary budget that will soon be tabled before the House; inorder to enhance the implementation of various projects.
He also congratulated the Speaker and Members of the County Assembly for making it and wished them all the best as they discharge their mandate.

The Governor was also accompanied by his Chief Of Staff Mr. Abdulnassir M. Issa, County Executive Committee and County Secretary Mr. John Mburu.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE THIRD LAMU COUNTY ASSEMBLY

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy has arrived at the Lamu County Assembly for the official opening of the Third County Assembly.
