Portuguese Ambassador to Kenya, Amb. Ana Filomena has this morning paid a courtesy call on Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW at the County Headquarters in Mokowe.

The two exchanged views on possibilities for future cooperation.

Serekali ya Kaunti ya Lamu kupitia Idara ya Afya imezindua rasmi mpango wakukabiliana na magonjwa ya kuharisha na ugonjwa wa malaria ikiwa ni njia moja wapo ya kujitayarisha ili kupambana na makali ya mvua ya elnino inayotarajiwa kunyesha hivi karibuni.

Akizindua rasmi mpango huo kwa wakaazi wa Mokowe katika makao makuu ya afisi za kaunti, Gavana Issa Timamy amesema Serekali yake imeweka mikakati kabambe ili kuhakikisha kuwa wakaazi wake wako na afya mzuri na salama.

Aidha, Gavana Timamy amewasihi wakaazi wa wote wa kaunti ya Lamu kutojenga katika maeneo ya mapito ya maji na kuongeza kuwa huenda wakalazimika kubomoa nyumba ambazo zimejengwa juu ya njia za maji huku akitoa mfano wa eneo la Mokowe ambapo nyumba kadhaa zilisombwa na maji.

Kati ya mwezi Aprili na Julai Idara ya Afya imenakili visa 6,600 vya magonjwa ya kuharisha inayoletwa na maji machafu ya kusimama.

Vifaa hivyo ni pamoja na machine za kisasa zakupulizia dawa ya kuuwa mbu, neti za mbu pamoja na dawa za kuweka kwa maji yakunywa.

Waliohudhuria hafla hiyo fupi ni pamoja na afisa Mkuu wa wafanyikazi Abdulnasir Issa, Waziri wa Afya Dkt. Mbarak Bahajaj, wakurugenzi wa Afya pamoja na wafanyikazi wengine.

TALANTA HELA U_19 GIRLS’ TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF IN WITU

Talanta Hela under 19 girl’s tournament has kicked off this morning in Witu Ward with 8 teams competing for individual slots to be part of the official County under 19 girls’ team.

Tomorrow, Talanta Hela U_19 tournament will be played at Muungano grounds in Mpeketoni before moving to Hindi Ward on sunday.

Talanta Hela U_19 tournament seeks to identify the best female footballers who will be enlisted to represent the county at the regional games with the best two teams expected to play during the Jamhuri Day national celebrations in Nairobi.

County Government of Lamu has already completed Talanta Hela U_19 boys tournament and the team awaits to compete in the regional games in September.

County Government of Lamu under the stewardship of H.E Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has been sponsoring Talanta Hela tournament as part of nurturing and promoting sports amongst youths as well as create alternative source of revenue for the youths.

Today’s kickoff was graced by Youth and Sports CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga who was accompanied by Chief Officer Md. Hafwa Difini and Sports Officer Peter Ndichu.

COUNTY TARGETS TO WORK CLOSELY WITH KVF TO REVIVE VOLLEYBALL IN LAMU

Kenya Volleyball Federation Lamu Branch Chair Mr. Gabriel Kariuki together with the newly elected KVF Lamu Branch board members paid a courtesy call on Sports CECM Hon. Sebastian Owanga on Tuesday this week at the County Headquarters in Mokowe.

The meeting delved on how KVF and County Government of Lamu will work together towards reviving volleyball sport in Lamu.

Hon. Owanga said at the meeting that County Government of Lamu is actively supporting and strengthening many sporting activities as part of fulfilling H.E. Governor Issa Timamy promise in nurturing and strenthening sports activities across the county.

The Department of Youth and Sports promised to assit the newly elected officials in ensuring their board is fully affiliated to KVF, provision of volleyball equipment to teams, training of volleyball referees’, improvement of volleyball infrastructure and supporting local teams to participate in regional and national championships.

County Youth and Sports Chief Officer Md. Hafswa Difini affirmed that her Department will continue growing talents in sports and creative arts as a sustainable program of employment creation.

KVF Chair Mr. Kariuki thanked Governor Timamy for his evident commitment in supporting and reviving volleyball sports which had been neglected and ensuring the county is able to produce strong teams that can compete at the top level.
