WITU COOPERATIVE GROUP TURNS FORTUNES WITH MILK PACKING & YOGURT MAKING VENTURE

After many years of struggling with lack of dairy market, over 1,000 dairy farmers from Witu Ward have finally discovered a secret to create value addition by packaging fresh milk and making yoghurt.

Witu Livestock Cooperative was officially opened today by H.E Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW and has rekindled the hope of dairy farmers from Witu who had for a long time suffered a blow from low milk prices.

Governor Timamy lauded the members initiative towards tapping into an opportunity that had been unexplored. He further committed to assist the cooperative society towards marketing their products and finding donors who will help them operate at their optimum.

Other farmers were called upon to form/join cooperatives since that’s the easiest way they can access government funding as well as attract investors.

The Governor was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua, CECMs, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CoS Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officers, MCAs, among others.

Lamu County Embarks On Witu Cemetery Preservation

County Government of Lamu has embarked on preservation of Witu Cemetery after being deserted for decades.

This includes building up of a perimeter wall, clearing overgrown bushes, weeding, litter picking, slashing, edge trimming, grass trimming/ mowing; and leveling of undulated grounds at the Cemetry.

Speaking while commissioning the building of the perimeter wall on Saturday, Governor Timamy issued the directive as part of providing dignity to all, including the departed.

The Governor is in Witu accompanied by senior government officials to commission different government projects.

WITU WOMEN, YOUTH, AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES RECEIVE AN ENTERPRISE GRANT OF KSH 1.4 MILLION

The Lamu County Government has issued Special Interest Group grants, to 14 women’s, youth’s groups as well as people with disabilities (PWDs) from Witu ward.

Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW officially launched the enterprise grant, which is expected to benefit micro and small businesses in the county operated by youth, women, and people with disabilities (PWDs).

Speaking during the issuance of cheques at Witu on Saturday, Governor Issa Timamy said the support was a critical social transformation pillar that would boost economic opportunities and engagement for Witu women, youths, and people with disabilities. He explained that the program aims to provide employment opportunities for these special interest groups by encouraging them to start their own businesses and become job creators.

“This is simply the begining; Our sustainable development agenda aims to leave no one behind, including women, youth, and those with disabilities. The goal is to attain a sustainable, inclusive, sustained, and equitable economic growth, supported by employment and decent work for everyone, social integration, increased productivity, and a pleasant environment for all Lamu residents.” Governor Timamy stated

He added that the County Government will be monitoring the beneficiary groups that have received the funding to see how they are doing, prioritizing groups with a good business track record to identify which ones require further support to grow.

According to Hon. Sebastian Owanga CECM for Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture & Social Services, the enterprise fund is a revolving fund with no interest, which means small firms will not be bound to repayment tenures.

The Governor was in Witu for a three day working tour that ended on Sunday, where he launched several development projects.

SCALING UP SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION FOR WATER CRISIS IN WITU WARD

County Government of Lamu has commissioned the rehabilitation of 19 water kiosks and 15 chambers across Witu Ward in a bid towards advancing health, economic development, and equality in rural communities. The water kiosks that will have a water rehabilitation line will see all residents have access to clean and safe water for domestic use.

Speaking at Witu when laying the foundation stone of Katumbini water kiosk, Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW who was accompanied by his Deputy HE Raphael Munyua committed to enhancing WIWA capacity to provide fresh drinking water in Witu.

Residents commended the County Government for the steps being taken towards improving water supply in Witu and thanked the Governor for increasing funding towards water projects in water-scarce areas across the county.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY FLAGS OFF WITU WATER BOWSER

Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has inspected and flagged off a water bowser purchased by the County Government to supply water to Witu residents for free.

The bowser will be stationed at Witu town where it will be managed by the department of Water and will be available for free across all villages in Witu Ward that have no water pipeline extension.

Speaking after flagging off the 10,000 litres water bowser, Governor Timamy said the move to have the water bowser was part of ensuring residents have clean and safe drinking water which is among his key development pillars.

The Governor who is in Witu to launch development projects underscored the milestones made by his Administration in regards to infrastructure development noting that the focus now shifts to supply of water to residents. He further stated the county will be taking water bowser services in Basuba ward, Faza Ward and Hindi Ward to sustain operations of water services in urban and rural areas.

The residents who have been grappling with water shortage, forcing them to buy the precious commodity from water vendors thanked Governor Timamy for responding to their aid for help.

Jubilation as Surveying of Witu Township Land Kicks Off After 60 Years of Waiting

More than 500 families from Witu town are a happy lot after the County Government of Lamu officially commenced survey of public and community lands in Witu town to facilitate resettlement of squatters.

Speaking after commissioning the survey works in Witu on Saturday afternoon, H. E Governor Timamy said surveyors from the Department of Lands, would complete the work in earnest to ensure rightful residents have their title deeds.

“To address the plight of over 500 families living in Witu as squatters, my Administration has today commenced a process to survey Witu town so as to solve the land question in Witu” said Governor Timamy.

The Governor also put on notice unsculprous individuals who might want to benefit from the process illegitimately and emphasized that only genuine families would get titles. He also emphasized that land remains a function of the County Government and asked provincial Administration leadership to shun away from involving themselves in the process.

EMPOWERING THE YOUTH: Governor Timamy gives VTC graduates from Witu start-up kits to start their own businesses.

Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy EGH, OGW has this afternoon provided free workshop equipment to Witu Vocational Training Center graduates to enable them put their training into practice and create job opportunities to other youths.

Speaking at the event at Witu social hall in Witu town, Governor Timamy said the programme will cover all VTCs with the aim of creating opportunities for technical graduates to put their training to use.

“This is a continuation of my Administration efforts in engaging graduates from our VTCs institutions. You now have the necessary skills and expertise that if well utilised, can transform yourselves. Start small and with time you will break even,” said Governor Timamy to the beneficiaries.

The Governor further expressed the need for youths to join VTCs to acquire technical skills citing wide job market and ability to initiate self employment.

The Governor who is in Witu to launch government projects also gave out cheques to 14 different special interest groups with each getting Sh. 100,000 as seed capital to be invested in business.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY OPENS NEW ICT CENTER IN WITU WARD

County Government of Lamu through the Department of ICT has today opened a new Information Center at Witu town in Lamu West.

The newly opened ICT Center is part of Governor Timamy’s agenda for empowering the youth with skills and knowledge to exploit the millions of jobs available in the digital space.

In line with his digital transformation agenda, the Governor has emphasized that the ICT centers will provide free internet, training and work spaces to enable the public to access online jobs and information for decision making.

The ANC party leader who is in Witu to launch government projects has called upon youths to embrace ICT, because in the near future technology will replace the traditional work where individuals work for multiple employers globally in chargeable chunks.

He also noted that digital work require skills and ethical values and called on parents and guardians to support their children to acknowledge digital work as authentic. He said digital work is lucrative and supports millions of people around the world.

The county government of Lamu through the Department of ICT is working towards the achievement of universal access to technology by opening up ICT centers and has already opened Mkunumbi ICT center as part of the other 5 ICT Centers (Bahari, Mkomani, Hindi, Shella, Faza and Kiunga) that will be opened soon.

LAMU SIGNS MoU WITH PABLO HORTSMAN & FRANCISCO VITORIA UNIVERSITY TO IMPROVE PEDIATRICS & CHILD HEALTH SERVICES AT KING FAHD HOSPITAL

Department of Medical Services led by CECM Health Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj, has signed an MoU with the Spanish organization Parblo Hortsmann, and Francisco Vitoria University to establish a modern Pediatrics (children) OUTPATIENT wing at King Fahd hospital.

The new and well equipped Pediatric Unit will be launched on 20th November 2023.

Speaking while witnessing the signing of the MoU, Lamu Governor HE Issa Timamy EGH, OGW applauded the partnership and promised to support the collaboration. He further echoed it’s importance in improving under-5 children health indicators in Lamu County.

In attendance during the signing of the MoU was Deputy Governor HE Raphael Munyua, County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj. The Pablo team was led by Madam Presidente Dr. Anna Singedorta and administrator Mr. Steven Odero.

Maisha Masha Residents To Benefit From Newly Launched Borehole

The residents of Maisha Masha in Witu ward are filled with joy after a well wisher through the good will of HE Governor Issa Timamy EGH, OGW completed the construction of a borehole in the area.

Speaking after launching the project on Friday afternoon, Governor Timamy emphasized the importance of collaboration among donors to support programs that can make a positive impact on people’s lives.

As a result, locals who used to have to travel long distances on foot to access water are now experiencing much-needed relief.
