COUNTY LOCAL CONTRACTORS WILL HAVE TO SOURCE LOCALLY; GOVERNOR TIMAMY

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has said the county government of Lamu is in the process of setting up a database for all qualified professionals that will be used to connect them to available job markets.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony at Mpeketoni Technical Vocational Center, where 350 students graduated with technical and life skill courses in Bahari Ward, the Lamu County boss said that those who get county tenders will first have to exhaust local available professionals before outsourcing from the county.

“Once we award you a tender, you will be required to tell us the professionals you require, and if we have them locally then you will be obliged to recruit them before you outsource” stated governor Timamy adding that the move will create job opportunities to local professionals.

Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, Education C.E.C.M Hon. Sebastian Owanga stated that his department will create a database that will enlist all professionals with their cadres to facilitate possible placements.

Bahari Ward M.C.A Hon. Francis Gokonga committed to support Governor Timamy’s administration towards unlocking Lamu’s economic potential.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY SAYS SAVING LAKE KENYATTA REMAINS A KEY PRIORITY IN HIS GOVERNMENT

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E G.H, O.G.W has said his administration has set aside Ksh.10m that will be used towards reclaiming the Lake Kenyatta that’s currently at the verge of extinction.

Speaking at Mpeketoni, Governor Timamy said the sanctity of a healthy Lake Kenyatta is paramount to the community and further urged those that have encroached to it’s catchment areas should vacate to save the lake that’s at the brink of extinction.

“Deforestation and human activities along the lake has over time caused a huge impact on endemic bird and animal that call the lake home. Deforestation has greatly reduced the capacity for the natural purification of water and increased the surface run-off which has further degraded the lake” said Governor Timamy.

The governor was speaking when he graced the second Mpeketoni Vocational Training Center graduation ceremony.

DISBURSEMENT OF LAMU COUNTY SCHOLARSHIPS KICKS OFF

Lamu County Government has commenced the issuance of scholarships to all continuing students with the aim of supporting the needy and bright students from the county to pursue their secondary school education.

Today, Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W issued scholarships worth Ksh. 4.9 M to Lamu Girls Secondary School which will cater for over 200 continuing students that are already enrolled under the scholarship program.

The A.N.C Party leader further reiterated his commitment to improve the standards of education in Lamu county and congratulated the outstanding students under the scholarship program encouraging them to work harder noting that those who will fail to get quality grades will have their scholarship withdrawn.

“As promised, my administration has kept the promise of awarding scholarships to bright and needy students. My administration will remain committed to ensure it transforms our county through education as envisioned in my education development pillar” Stated Governor Timamy.

The Governor further promised to motivate both teachers and learners for all schools that perform well as well as introducing county exams.

Education C.E.C.M Hon. Sebastian Owanga noted that the Department of Education will oversee a transparent process where only qualified students will be awarded the county scholarships.

The governor and his team also inspected the dormitories to see the challenges of congestion the school is facing.

The Governor was recieved to the school by the B.O.M Chair and the LAPSSET Regional Manager Mr. Salim Bunu together with the School Principal Madam Jamila.

MPEKETONI BOYS RECEIVE Ksh. 8.4 MILLION IN COUNTY FULL SCHOLARSHIP

H.E The Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has this morning issued scholarship cheques worth Ksh. 8.4 million to Mpeketoni Boys secondary school in Bahari Ward.

The scholarship will benefit 375 continuing students who are currently enrolled in the County Scholarship program.

The Governor congratulated students who received their scholarships and encouraged them to work hard warning those who don’t perform will have their scholarships withdrawn.

“My administration will continue supporting the scholarship program and as part of promoting our education system we will be seeking to introduce county common exams as well as motivate best performing teachers and students” stated governor Timamy.

The Governor further promised to complete the construction of the stalled library that he had commenced during his first term and also committed to equip it once completed.

Also in attendance was Education C.E.C.M Hon. Sebastian Owanga, Chief Officer Ms. Hafswa Difini, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Bursary and Scholarship Chair Mr. Athman Amin, Bahari MCA Hon. Gakonga among others.

Commander Operation Amani Boni (OAB) Col. Joel Tanui has today paid a courtesy call on H.E. Governor Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W to deliberate on how best the county and the armed forces can collaborate for the benefit of mwananchi.

Lamu Governor lauded KDF for their relentless effort towards supporting the Lamu community through establishment of key infrastructure projects such as schools and dispensaries within the county noting that his administration acknowledges their positive impact to the society. He further commended them for the enormous contribution they have made in the education sector by lending a hand to the needy students and getting them placements at the armed forces schools as well as offering free transportation to school for those students who come from highly insecure areas.

Col. Tanui congratulated Governor Timamy for his unwaivering commitment towards securing Lamu and further pledged they will not cease guarding Lamu as well as assisting the community with development under social cooperated responsibility.

GIVE POWER TO PARTNER WITH COUNTY IN WATER DESALINATION PROJECTS

County Government of Lamu will work with Give Power to set up desalination plants in Lamu West and East sub counties as part of solving the existing water crisis issues.

Speaking when paying a courtesy call on Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Timamy at his Mokowe office, The Non-Governmental Organization President Mrs. Michele Magee said that they would be conducting a feasibility study on the viability of getting water from Lake Moa and supply to Moa, Katsaka Kairu, Bora Moyoo, Chalaluma and the neighborhood villages.

Towards ensuring Lamu residents have access to clean water for domestic use, Governor Timamy committed to rehabilitate the vandalized Witu- Pandanguo water pipeline and revive Siu desalination plant.

“Access to clean water is among the pledges I made to the great people of Lamu and towards this course, my administration is in the process of procuring three water boozers where one will go to the East and the others to Lamu West sub county. The boozers will be critical in supplying water to villages that are in dire need of water like Basuba, Mararani, Madina, Kiangwe, Mangai and others” stated Governor Timamy.

He further added that his administration will continue partnering with donors and other development partners to drill boreholes, set up desalination plants and also start water harvesting as mitigation measures solve the water crisis in Lamu.

Give Power further commited to set up a desalination plant in Pate and also commission five solar power projects in July this year where three schools and two dispensaries will benefit.

WE WILL SOLVE THE WATER PROBLEM: PROMISES Governor Timamy

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has promised the residents of Ndau that the government is in a hurry to solve the water problem in Ndau village.

Speaking at the 10th graduation ceremony at Lamu Technical and Vocational Education and Training college, the Governor said they have already spoken with engineers to expedite repair of faulty water grinding machine. In addition, he said his government will pay for the transport of water from Kizingitini to Ndau.

Addressing the graduates, Governor Timamy congratulated them for qualifying and advising them to be a good example to the society.

“After qualification, you will begin the journey of socializing, and my request to you is to be a good example and also work on your profession properly,” said Governor Timamy, assuring that his government will continue to fund education in different universities and kindergartens.

Regarding the County development, the governor said his government will ensure that it has established a fish storing ice plant in Mokowe as one way of expanding Lamu’s blue economic market.

LAMU DEPUTY GOVERNOR SPONSORS A NEEDY MARGINALIZED STUDENT FROM SANYE COMMUNITY TO PURSUE HIS SECONDARY EDUCATION

Lamu Deputy Governor H.E. Raphael Munyua has put a smile on the face of Khamis Omar, a needy student from the Sanye community who could not raise school fees to join form one.

The D.G said he was touched after learning Omar was from the marginalized communities in Kenya and had undergone through a lot of hardship to complete his primary education and secured him an admission at Mpeketoni Boys national school.

The Deputy Governor who is an alumni of Mpeketoni Boys pledged to be Omar’s guardian and further assured him he will not only educate him through high school education, but also the university.

Omar could not hide his joy following the Deputy Governor’s gesture saying that his parents live in abject poverty and his hopes to continue with education had been rekindled.

C.B.K PAYS COURTESY CALL TO LAMU GOVERNOR

Lamu County Governor H.E. Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W has today held discussions with Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to deliberate on areas of partnership for the interests of local communities.

The discussion centered on areas of possible partnerships including training County Executive Committee Members and treasury officers on financial matters where he also emphasized that his administration is keen on diverse investments.

Governor Timamy further noted that the county has many economic activies that generate revenue including livestock, blue economy, tourism, agriculture, mining and a newly built port. The govenor is partnering with stakeholders to digitize the revenue streams to make them cashless.

Led by Central Bank of Kenya Mombasa Branch Manager Mr. Agina Clement, also presented a memorabilia booklet which holds specimen bank notes of the new currency issued in 2019.

In attendance was Lamu Deputy Governor H.E. Raphael Munyua, CBKs Mrs. Ondari Emily and Habib Mazrui.

GOVERNOR TIMAMY PRESIDES OVER THE GROUND BREAKING OF EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER IN HINDI WARD

The construction of the first Emergency Operation Center in Lamu County has begun today.

The ground-breaking ceremony was graced by Lamu County Governor H.E Issa Timamy E.G.H, O.G.W and once complete, the center will host response units that are responsible for promoting efficient organization and coordination of search, rescue operations, disaster and emergency response within rescue region.

According to the Governor, the center will act as a resource center to the county government, Red Cross, World Wide Fund, Police among others to enable them operate from a central coordinated place whenever there are hazards and emergencies.

“This disaster rescue center will be a game changer towards responding to emergencies in Lamu. It will enable stakeholders to operate from a designated place thus reducing response time and increased coordination, making emergency and disaster response missions, coordination and operations swift and timely” Governor Timamy stated.

The Governor who was accompanied by his Deputy H.E Raphael Munyua further noted that many emergency response missions fail because resources and personnel are far apart and that largely affects decision making in times of emergencies.

The coordination center is expected to be complete by end of April this year and is being constructed in partnership with World Wide Fund and Kenya Red Cross.
